The 517 debuted in 1971 as the world's first boot-cut jeans.
Compared to the classic 501, the 517 has a tighter knee and a flared silhouette that widens towards the hem.
Popular as a staple item of the hippie culture from the 1970s onwards, it was in vogue until the 2000s.
After that, smarter silhouettes like tapered and skinny jeans became the trend, but with the recent revival of retro booms like the 90s, Y2K, hippie, and vintage clothing, it's now regaining popularity.
