Written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg, Infinity Pool follows a young, wealthy couple named James (Skarsgård) and Em (Cleopatra Coleman), who embark on a lavish vacation at an all-inclusive resort. Guided by the seductive and mysterious Gabi (Mia Goth), they venture outside the resort grounds and find themselves in a culture filled with violence, hedonism, and untold horror. A tragic accident leaves them facing a zero-tolerance policy for crime: either you’ll be executed, or, if you’re rich enough to afford it, you can watch yourself die instead.
Soundtracking the disorienting descent into madness is a surreal, ethereal soundscape from the mind of Canadian composer and experimental electronic musician Tim Hecker. With a resume of solo work spanning 10 studio albums, Hecker’s unique approach to ambient, electronic songcraft lends itself perfectly to the otherworldly, dystopian setting of the film.
